Capabilities
What began as a family-owned business has evolved into a global supplier with operations in the United States and Mexico, including local production in Texas to keep us close to key markets.
To strengthen year-round supply and expand product diversity, we partner with trusted growers in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and the United States. Everything rests on the same foundation: food safety, traceability, good agricultural and manufacturing practices, social responsibility and sustainable farming.
"We don't just supply herbs — we build relationships that grow over time."

Local production
Our own facility lets us control the last and most delicate step ourselves — sorting, packing and cooling under GMP, hours from the hubs that ship to your dock.
Corporate social responsibility
True growth is only possible when our people, our communities and our planet thrive together — and buyers increasingly need that documented, not just stated.
The herbs
We grow and source a wide range of fresh herbs, running distinct processes for conventional and organic while keeping quality, freshness and care consistent across every product.

Behind every fresh herb program is an entire operation focused on quality, timing and consistency.
For more than 35 years, Gourmet Xpress has supported retail, foodservice and distribution partners across the United States with premium fresh herbs through vertically integrated operations in Texas, Florida and Mexico.
As a company dedicated to growing, sourcing, packing and delivering fresh conventional and organic herbs, our commitment has always remained the same:
Most herb programs fail in the handoffs — between the grower who cuts the product, the packer who boxes it and the carrier who moves it. Every handoff adds hours, and hours are what fresh herbs cannot spare. Owning the fields, the packing lines and the refrigerated hubs removes those handoffs from the equation.
In practice, that means one lot code that follows the product from the field block to your dock, one food safety system audited as a whole rather than facility by facility, and one team accountable when a spec changes mid-season.
Three shifts are reshaping herb sourcing right now. First, buyers are consolidating: fewer suppliers, deeper programs, and far more scrutiny of who actually grows the product. Second, organic keeps outgrowing conventional in the category, which makes segregated organic lines and current certificates a requirement rather than a differentiator. Third, shrink has become a board-level metric — a herb program is now judged on what survives to the shelf, not on what left the field.
The suppliers that answer those pressures are the ones that can show their process, not just quote a price.
Key takeaways
As we continue growing, we're excited to begin sharing more about our farms, our operations, our people, and the processes behind fresh herb production and distribution — including the that back every claim.
Thank you to our customers, partners and team members who have been part of this journey.

Growing practices

Precision irrigation systems are transforming the way fresh herbs are grown, improving consistency, efficiency and overall product quality.
At Gourmet Xpress, our growing operations incorporate:
In fresh herb production, small variations in moisture and nutrient management directly impact flavor, aroma, shelf life, product consistency and overall quality. These technologies deliver water and nutrients straight to the root zone, creating cleaner, more stable and more efficient growing conditions.
By implementing controlled irrigation and growing systems, we support fresher herbs with extended shelf life, more consistent product quality, reduced waste at the retail and foodservice level, improved plant development and more reliable year-round supply.
Postharvest research is consistent on one point: the condition of the plant at the moment of cutting sets the ceiling for everything that follows. Water stress, uneven nutrition and excess leaf moisture all shorten shelf life long before a box reaches a cooler. No packaging technology recovers what the field gave away.
That is why we treat irrigation as a quality control, not an input cost. Filtered water reduces the salts and contaminants that accumulate in the root zone; drip lines keep foliage dry, which lowers the microbial pressure that drives decay in leafy herbs; and controlled environments hold the plant inside a narrower band of temperature and humidity through the whole cycle.
Controlled-environment production is the fastest-moving part of the category, and for a buyer its real value is calendar coverage: greenhouse and shade-net structures extend the growing window on both ends of the season and cushion the weather events that used to produce gaps and spot-market pricing. Combined with growing regions in Texas, Florida and Mexico, that is what makes a 52-week program realistic.
Key takeaways
At Gourmet Xpress, we believe agricultural innovation begins by controlling the details that impact quality the most.
Indirectly, yes. Stable moisture and nutrition in the root zone keep the plant from swinging between stress and surplus, which is what flattens aroma and produces inconsistent leaves.
Certified organic production has its own requirements for substrate and inputs. Our organic volume is grown and packed on certified, segregated lines, and the certificate is available on request.

Postharvest

Harvest timing is the variable most fresh herb buyers never see.
Every quality issue that shows up at store level or in a restaurant kitchen had a starting point — not transportation, not the packing shed, but the time that passes between harvest and pre-cooling in the cold room.
Fresh herbs begin losing moisture and aromatic compounds within minutes of harvest. The longer that window stays open before product reaches the cold room, the faster respiration rates increase, accelerating wilting and decay — regardless of how well the plant was grown.
At Gourmet Xpress, harvest is treated with rigorous precision, not as a routine agricultural task:
This is where most programs quietly lose shelf life. For the majority of culinary herbs, storage close to 0°C (32°F) is what protects quality, and the difference is measurable: postharvest guidance from UC Davis puts expected shelf life at around three weeks at 0°C versus about two weeks at 5°C (41°F).
Basil is the exception that ruins mixed loads. It is chilling sensitive and is damaged below roughly 10°C (50°F), so the same cooler that extends parsley and mint will blacken basil. Running basil warm and the rest of the catalogue cold — and keeping them apart in transit — is a discipline, not a detail.
Shrink is rarely caused by one dramatic failure. It is the sum of a warm hour in the field, a mixed-temperature trailer and a delayed cross-dock, each of which quietly spends days of remaining shelf life. Because those days are spent before the product is ever displayed, the loss shows up in the store and the cause stays invisible upstream.
For our retail and foodservice partners, this translates directly into extended shelf life on arrival, reduced shrink at store level, and predictable quality across every shipment and every season.
Key takeaways
Consistency is not a promise — it's a fact, the result of discipline applied at every growing stage, from seeding to the moment of harvest.
As close to immediately as the operation allows. Our protocol moves product from the field to cold storage and pre-cooling right after cutting, before respiration accelerates.
Almost always chilling injury. Basil is damaged below about 10°C (50°F), so a trailer set for leafy greens will destroy it while protecting everything around it.
